Donald Glover suggested Saturday night his next Childish Gambino album may be his last.
"I'll see you for the last Gambino album," Glover said as he closed out his show last night at Governors Ball Music Festival, his sole live performance of 2017. His brief comment came as he finished his set with his "Awaken, My Love!" standout "Redbone."
"Awaken!" arrived last December and was included among Variance's 50 Best Albums of 2016. Likewise, "Redbone" was one of our 100 Best Songs of 2016.
It's worth noting, Glover's statement shouldn't come as a complete surprise for many fans, as the actor-musician previously said in a 2015 Today show interview he intended to eventually wrap his Gambino persona. “Childish Gambino is a period of my art time,” he said. “I want to have periods in my life. I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings.”
A rep for Glover did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
