RY X is ushering in a new chapter with the release of his stirring new single “Holy Water,” which arrived Thursday as the first glimpse of his forthcoming album DUSK.
The Grammy-nominated Australian artist’s latest is a delicate, heart-aching ballad built around the intimacy and vulnerability that have long defined his work. Written and produced entirely by RY X, “Holy Water” unfolds with a quiet intensity, pairing his unmistakable vocals with an enveloping, increasingly orchestral backdrop.
The track serves as the opening introduction to DUSK, due in early 2027. The record will mark RY X’s first full-length album since 2022’s Blood Moon and, according to the singer, represents something of a return to the essence of his songwriting.
“‘Holy Water’ became a prayer honoring the beauty of the water contained in the human body, and the story of where that water connects with the world outside,” RY X says of the song, describing it as a meditation on love and “the gravity between two hearts.”
He says the process of creating DUSK found him stripping the songs back to their core and embracing the imperfections of making something deeply human, with “every sound, every breath, every mistake caught on tape.”
That sense of closeness is immediately apparent on “Holy Water.” Rather than announcing a new era with something oversized, RY X returns by drawing the listener inward, offering a vulnerable and beautifully restrained first look at what is to come.
