New York pop/rock artist Emily Ryan recently released an intoxicating new single “Discreet.” Teaming up with rapper Fivio Foreign, who is known for his work with Kanye West, Playboi Carti, Drake and Nicki Minaj, “Discreet” features his renowned energetic ad-libs which pack a punch alongside Ryan’s ethereal yet powerful vocals, resulting in the ultimate sing-a-long earworm

“Discreet” is about a relationship that exists mainly behind closed doors. Ryan sings, “Call me in the late night with your habits, keep it discreet now can you manage,” with Fivio following it up with, “You know your secret's safe with me baby, I ain't tell no body 'bout our business.” You can hear the chemistry between their vocals, however, despite its captivating narrative, Ryan admits how the story is simply fiction, sharing, "It's not based on mine or my friends' lives, it's just a fiction story. I find it fun to write tracks like this because it's almost like being back in the theater. I get to play a character, and it adds another element of fun to my job." Her talent for creating worlds through her music and lyrics can be heard throughout her entire catalog, emphasizing her strength as a storyteller. “Discreet” does mark a change from her usual approach though, with much of Ryan’s previous music drawing directly from her own life and experiences. Here, she gets to step outside of herself and tell someone else’s story instead.

The collaboration with Fivio actually stems from a few years ago, when his feature was planned for Ryan’s 2023 debut album. However, some setbacks caused a delay and it was put on hold, which almost feels serendipitous, allowing the collaboration to eventually find the right home with “Discreet.”

“Discreet” is the perfect addition to your night out playlists.
