Netflix has renewed Stranger Things for a third season.
While the news had been expected, the streaming platform made it official on Friday, although a return date has not yet been announced. The second season premiered back in October.
The '80s-set thriller series was a breakout hit following its first season premiere last year, but season 2 has earned somewhat mix reviews. Nonetheless, it is now a mammoth franchise for Netflix.
Although Netflix doesn't release viewership details, like traditional television networks, Nielsen estimated a staggering 15.8 million viewers watched the first episode of season 2 within the first three days of its release.
It's still unclear how long Stranger Things might stick around, but most of the core cast is signed to a six-year contract.
