It appears ABC's upcoming reboot of American Idol is trying to recruit Katy Perry to serve as a judge.
TMZ reported Sunday the singer is in talks for the revival, after having previously passed on the original Fox version as well as The Voice. The news comes as ABC is said to be pursuing Ryan Seacrest to return as host.
As another indication of the push the network is making to see its risky bet pay off, current plans are for Idol to premiere on March 5, the day after next year's Academy Awards, ABC's biggest annual telecast, which would thus be plastered with promo.
The goal is for the network to reveal Seacrest and Perry's involvement this Tuesday during its annual upfront presentation, where it will be sharing plans for the 2017-18 season.
The Idol resurrection would also seem to be timed well with Perry's upcoming album, which is expected to arrive later this year and will likely be followed by a tour.
