After weeks of speculating, it's official: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will co-star in the new season of True Detective.
A rep for HBO has confirmed with Variance the eight-episode series will begin production later this fall in California. The network had previously aimed to start shooting this month.
Additional cast is to be announced, but as had been rumored, the network has also booked Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious) to direct the first two episodes.
Farrell will star as Ray Velcoro, a "compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him," according to a press release from HBO.
Vaughn's Frank Semyon is described as a "career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."
The new season—which will follow Velcroro, two other police officers and Semyon as they investigate the aftermath of a murder—is expected to premiere next summer.
