Uber Expected to Reveal Spotify Partnership

Uber riders may soon have another reason to use the "ridesharing" service, as the company is expected to announce a partnership with Spotify.

Some reporters have received invitations to join a conference call with Uber this coming Monday (Nov. 17). According to The New York Times, an unnamed “special partner guest” is said to be Spotify CEO Daniel Ek.

Although details remain slim, the Times explains the partnership would allow passengers to play their Spotify playlists within an Uber vehicle during their ride.

A screenshot obtained by TechCrunch (seen below) suggests music from Spotify would be synced with Uber and likely played from within the app rather than giving drivers direct access to passengers' Spotify accounts.

The news comes at a curious time for Spotify, as Ek himself has spent the month of November fending off criticism of the company's royalty tiers for artists, highlighted by Taylor Swift's decision to remove her entire catalog from the service.
