British rockers Foals will return with a brand new album, What Went Down, due Aug. 28 on Warner Music.

The band confirmed the news Thursday afternoon, noting that the title track and lead single will debut Tuesday (June 16) on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show.

For the album, which was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine), the band retreated to the South of France and recorded in a rural, 19th century mill.

"I wanted to tap into my inner madman and feel like I was channeling some sort of fevered creature," said vocalist Yannis Philippakis of the record, which is described as "beautiful pop songs" centered around "cultural identity, generational anxiety, cynicism, pessimism and heartbreak."

Foals' previous effort, Holy Fire, was one of Variance's Best Albums of 2013.
