After frontman Matt Berninger in August revealed The National had already sketched out as many 30 new songs, the band Friday night debuted one of those tracks in the form of unreleased cut "Roman Candle."

The group was performing a concert at The Troubadour in Los Angeles to benefit nonprofit Cooperative for Education, which was founded in 1996 by Berninger's cousins, Joe and Jeff Berninger, and exists to "help Guatemalan schoolchildren break the cycle of poverty through education," according to its mission statement.
