Singer-songwriter Anna Shoemaker has released her first new single "Counting," which arrived Wednesday along with an accompanying video directed by Josefine Cardoni.

The very infectious, contemplative new track was produced by and co-written with Jim Alexander, following Shoemaker's 2025 album Someone Should Stop Her, which was released in early 2025. The video was shot in the singer's hometown outside of Philadelphia, marking the beginning of her journey back to Pennsylvania.

"'Counting' is about keeping score in a game you've already lost,” says Shoemaker about the newly released track. “It's a running tally of every red flag, unanswered text, and excuse you've heard from someone who is very, very clearly not good for you. At its core, it's about the ridiculous disconnect between what we know and what we feel—the fact that someone can disappoint you over and over again, yet somehow you're still excited when their name lights up your phone."
