Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey and a number of other A-listers will take part in a one-hour live telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Set for next Tuesday, Sept. 12, Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief, will air live at 8 p.m. EST across all the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox) as well as cable network CMT.
Also on hand for the event will be Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon, Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey, Kelly Rowland, Ryan Seacrest, Adam Sandler, Blake Shelton and Michael Strahan, as well a country icon George Strait, who will appear via concert from the Majestic Theater in San Antonio. The city has become a refuge for thousands displaced because of the storm.
All proceeds raised will go to recovery efforts through a handful of charities, including United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Feeding Texas and the Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief.
In 2012, NBC's telethon for Superstorm Sandy raised $23 million for victims, with performances from Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Billy Joel, Mary J. Blige and others.
Beyoncé, who is a Houston native, had previously vowed to help as many victims as she could. She is also working with her BeyGOOD Foundation to help a number of local organizations.
