Following news his latest album, Views, has debuted atop the U.S. album charts, Drake has also earned his first No. 1 song with "One Dance," which appears on that record.
Featuring WizKid and Kyla, "One Dance" had previously settled at No. 2. And while Drizzy had reigned as a featured guest on Rihanna's nine-week No. 1 "Work," this marks the first time in the rapper's career he's ever topped the charts as a lead artist.
He's come close multiple times, including with "Best I Ever Had" in 2009 and last year's "Hotline Bling," both of which stalled at No. 2.
"One Dance" soared this past week, largely because of the release of Views, with downloads of the song jumping 32 percent to 160,000 copies in the week ending on May 5, according to Nielsen Music. It also gained in streaming with 37.4 million U.S. listens during the same period.
As we previously mentioned, Views sold 851,000 copies during its first week, with more than 1 million when factoring album equivalent units and streaming. It was the best sales week Drake ever had, topping 2013's Nothing Was the Same, which sold 658,000 in its debut week.
