Soundcloud, Warner Music to Launch Subscription Service in Early 2015

As Soundcloud evolves into a much more powerful tool for the music industry, the audio platform has officially partnered with its first major label to offer a new subscription service.

Warner Music Group on Tuesday unveiled an "alliance" with the company which will include "its subscription streaming service that is due to launch in the first half of 2015."

The news comes only weeks after Soundcloud began adding pre-roll audio ads to tracks, with the option to skip to the song after several seconds.

According to the label, the new service will "create new commercial and promotional possibilities" for its artists while also opening up monetization opportunities through "user-generated mixes and mash-ups of WMG music," suggesting the label may soon be able to profit off remixes posted by fans.

Details of the service are still slim, but it seems Soundcloud may be taking a few cues from YouTube as it tries to both make money and please the record companies.
