It looks like Chance the Rapper fans are about to get a surge of new music.
He revealed in a new interview with the Chicago Tribune he is planning to release a new album, which will be "out in a few days," according to the newspaper. It would mark his first project since Coloring Book, which was Variance's 2016 Album of the Year.
It wasn't immediately clear how or when the album will arrive, but it's worth noting Coloring Book was released as an Apple Music exclusive for two weeks before making its way to other streaming platforms. “I’ve never been against selling music,” Chance told the Tribune. “Music has value. I put my music out there for free because I wanted people to see and notice it as a beacon for what I’m doing."
The timing of the news and the music itself is likely no coincidence, as Chance is headlining a concert this Saturday in Chicago to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics.
Chance also shared details about a separate project he is working on with Kanye West, noting it started in Wyoming, where West's own new album Ye was crafted.
“I don’t know of a timeline on it yet, the trajectory of it," Chance said of his work with West. "But he’s coming [to Chicago] to work on it some more. We’ve just started making it, but I don’t want to manipulate the situation and impose any time frame, because that can hinder you.”
As we previously noted, Chance also revealed late last month he is working with Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) on their long-discussed collaborative album. "We’ve got six songs that are all fire," he said of his work with Glover. "But I think the album is going to be more than 14 songs."
A rep for Chance the Rapper did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
