After being plastered across Spotify and dominating headlines this past week, Drake's first-week numbers are in.
Scorpion, which was released on June 29, is officially the No. 1 album in America, having moved 732,000 equivalent album units, including 160,000 in traditional album sales. According to Nielsen Music, it's the biggest debut and highest-selling week for any album this year.
With Scorpion, Drake has now earned his eighth consecutive No. 1 on the U.S. album chart, the Billboard 200, meaning all of his full-length projects have topped the charts. That gives him the second-most chart-toppers in the hip-hop category, tying Kanye West and Eminem.
Perhaps benefitting from all the speculation and buzz as well as its exhausting 25-track length, Scorpion generated a massive 745.92 million on-demand streams in the U.S., easily surpassing Post Malone's previous record of 431.3 million, which he set back in May with the debut of his latest album Beerbongs & Bentleys.
In addition to huge domestic streaming performance, Drizzy's new album also became the first record to hit 1 billion global streams in a single week.
It's worth noting Scorpion's first-week data came solely from digital platforms, as it wasn't yet available on physical formats. It will, however, be released on CD this Friday, July 13.
