LANY officially kicked off their second album cycle on Tuesday with the release of their emotional new single "Thru These Tears."
The Los Angeles-based trio, made up of Paul Klein, Les Priest and Jake Goss, had been teasing the track for weeks as they prepared to close out the "rose era," a nod to the artwork featured on their self-titled debut album released last summer.
The new track launches the "moon era," a symbolic reference to the band's sophomore record Malibu Nights, which will be released later this year. "Thru These Tears" is the first preview of that project.
It's likely no secret the song (and most of the album) was created in the aftermath of Klein's breakup with Dua Lipa. But as the song premiered today on Beats 1, the singer told Zane Lowe it's "bigger than a breakup album," adding: "This is just about being human and going through the ups and downs."
The new song held a special place with the band. Throughout the creation of the new record, "Tears" was the one track they would continually revisit, rework and tweak. Thus, it made sense for it to be the first they'd share ahead of the new album.
