Rising Brooklyn-based singer-producer Julius has shared a new single "Dope Francis," featuring Atlanta rapper Rome Fortune.
Julius—a former classical composer—first caught our attention last fall with his original "Falling on Hard Times" and impressive cover/mashup of of Drake's "Heat of the Moment" and iLoveMakonnen's "Tuesday."
"Dope Francis," which matches polished production with Julius' resplendent vocals and Rome's feisty verse, is an excellent preview of the former's forthcoming new music.
The track, as its title suggests, was inspired by Pope Francis, the current pope of the Catholic Church. "He's a force for good in the world," Julius said of the song. "[He] gets that even old institutions eventually have to modernize. I wrote this song as one long double entendre about a girl who welcomes you into her life, just like the Pope welcomes people into the church. Pope Francis is dope because he is moving the world forward on social issues."
