Toronto based artist and producer Tyler Gunn refuses to be defied by categorization in his new single, “A Million Miles.” Instead, he blends a plethora of sounds, styles and influences to create something that captures a diverse range of emotions. His latest release sees Gunn exploring a vibrant sonic palette, ranging from grunge, dream pop, folk and art rock, resulting in something that you can’t quite put your finger on.

Often writing and creating songs as a way of self-discovery, Gunn shares, “It’s rare that I even know what a song is about until after finishing it. They reveal themselves to me at different times, and sometimes never at all.” When it comes to “A Million Miles” we witness the songwriter delving into the theme of suffering and the effect it has on us. “This song came at a time when I desperately needed it. Life at that point felt stale and unchanging. Making this felt like the beginning of a new chapter,” Gunn admits. His vulnerable and relatable lyrics allow us to accompany him on his journey of navigating the complexities of the world.

The somber narrative of “A Million Miles” matches its sound, emitting a mournful ambiance through thunderous percussion and a foreboding bassline. Gunn hoped that this track would provide an emotional release for listeners much like his own transformative experience he had while creating it, and I think it’s safe to say he has succeeded.
