Canadian alt/pop artist Cherry Lena recently unveiled her first single of the year with the intoxicating new “Sad Boy.” With the title giving away the concept behind the song, Lena sings about the awakening realization that the person you’ve been fantasizing about is just a miserable person and an overall massive letdown. We’re all guilty of believing that things will be a lot better in our minds, as we look at life through rose-tinted glasses and sometimes we just need shaking back into reality. “Sad Boy” is the anthem to listen to if you need help to wake up from that dream and face the facts.

The songwriter shares, “It's about a sad boy I met last fall. He fascinated me. I think in great part because I simply didn’t understand him. At the time, I didn’t realize how greatly I had romanticized the idea of him. I still remember the times when we would text each other for hours like highschool kids and how it made me feel. Although, nothing about the idea I created of him in my head ended up being as great as who he was in reality. I often find things to be better in my imagination.”

The Montreal based artist envelops listeners with her impressive vocal range, as her voice ascends atop a hypnotic beat and oscillating synths which gradually build into a dynamic, thundering chorus. She chants “Why do you run in circles?” questioning the actions and behaviors of this boy that is just a time waster. If there is anything to take away from this single, it’s to not be led astray by someone who seems to be offering you the world. The saying “too good to be true” is particularly poignant for Cherry Lena.
