The day has finally come. Jessie Reyez has released her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us.

Coming in the midst of a global pandemic, the album is perfect listening for social-distancing but also a reminder of the massive, arena-worthy talent of Reyez, who shared the standout single "Love in the Dark" back in January. That track is included in Variance's recent Songs for the Quarantine playlist.

About her decision to maintain today's release date, Reyez told The New York Times: "It messed me up because I was like, ‘I don't want to seem insensitive.' I've grown up thinking about death as something that could easily happen tomorrow. But I know that for everybody else, there's a lot of fear right now. I'm conflicted. But I've decided I'm putting out because indecision never did anything for nobody.”

Earlier this month, Reyez had been opening for Billie Eilish's U.S. tour, which was abruptly postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
