Ahead of the weekend, rising singer-songwriter Rotana has shared a video for her song "Crime," the latest in her Demo Love Series.
The Saudi Arabian artist originally wrote "Crime" for the DJ duo Grey and indie-pop singer Skott, who released the track last year as more of an EDM cut, but Rotana has always felt a deep connection to it and decided to rework it and release a stripped back demo version of her own. The single arrives Friday but it's premiering today on Variance.
"I wrote this song with one of my favorite pop writers, Linnea Sodhal. It's about abandon and genuinely not giving a fuck," Rotana says of the track. "Growing up in Saudi Arabia, I had so little abandon and I really crave it in my life now. I think that's when magic happens. So yeah, theres an extreme youth to this song in not caring one bit about what others think, but also a wisdom in knowing that's is all we’ve got cuz were all going anyway."
Born and raised with eyes on becoming a successful oil company executive in Saudi Arabia, Rotana eventually decided to pursue her own journey and moved to Los Angeles to dive into the music industry.
