Steve Carell is going from comedy to intense drama in his next role.

The actor stars alongside Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo in Foxcatcher, which is based on a true story of a mentally disturbed multi-millionaire (Carell), who recruits wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum) to join a team training for the Seoul Olympics. Mark’s rivalry with his brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo) turns into a scary, murderous obsession for Carell's character, and the story quickly takes an ugly turn.

The film was screened on Monday during the Cannes Film Festival, and the majority of critics seemed to have been thoroughly impressed.

The Hollywood Reporter has said Carell delivered a "career-changing performance," while Variety declared Monday's screening marked the "unofficial kickoff to awards season," calling the former Office star "an Oscar lock."

Foxcatcher is set to arrive in theaters on Nov. 14.
