The man who Bill Murray believes is one of the best ever to grace the Saturday Night Live stage Bill Hader returned to his old stomping grounds this week to host the third episode of the show's 40th season.

"I was never even supposed to be on Saturday Night Live," he told the crowd during his opening monologue. "I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, like an idiot in some book," he explained before explaining that he was discovered by Megan Mullally.

The night featured a guest appearance by fellow SNL alum and Skeleton Twins co-star Kristen Wiig, who also brought back her popular Kathie Lee Gifford impression later on during the show.

Hozier, whose first full-length album is on track to debut in the top five on Billboard, performed his hit single "Take Me to Church" followed by "Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene," both of which appear on the record.

Hader and Wiig also paid tribute former SNL cast member Jan Hooks, who died earlier this past week at only 57.

Of course, Hader had to revisit his famous "Weekend Update" character Stefon.
