Mat Kearney on Monday night unveiled the first single off his upcoming album, Just Kids, in the form of an ambitious video.
Shot in one take, the visuals for "Heartbeat" were captured by a "helicopter drone" along the Los Angeles River—the location of famous scenes from Grease and Anchorman, among others. (It's intentionally inspired by Grease as well.)
"It took a tremendous amount of planning and choreography to make sure everyone was in the right place at the right time," Kearney said of his venture into the world of drones. "After I sang the first verse on the bridge we had to drive like bank robbers to get down to the riverbed in time for me to make the last scene."
Kearney's forthcoming album, which will be his first since 2011's Young Love, is expected in early 2015.
