Japanese Breakfast brought The Melancholy Tour to a full house at The Sylvee in Madison, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, delivering a tight and luminous set that showcased the sweep of Michelle Zauner’s new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) alongside favorites from earlier records.

The room filled early for opener Ginger Root, and by showtime the stage lights framed Zauner and her band in soft hues as they eased into the night. Early highlights included “Here Is Someone,” “Orlando in Love” and “Honey Water,” each sung with clear, ringing phrasing that cut through the walls of the venue.

By the end of the night, Zauner had threaded the show between glittering pop moments and tender intimacy, the sort of balance that has made this tour such a draw in every city. The Madison stop reinforced that momentum with polished performances, crisp dynamics and a graceful exit that left fans buzzing on their way into the late summer air.
