From Sussex, England, five-piece indie pop meets synth rock band Marlow have dropped their latest tune “Blame It.” Combining a flavor of synths, huge drums and all-encompassing gritty rock guitars, Marlow have created a timeless sound reminiscent of The Vaccines meets The Courteeners. Now paired with an affecting music video directed and produced by Jake Hargreaves, the video shows Marlow in their element playing passionately, intertwined with shots of a couple finding their way through their issues and bad habits.

“Blame it” draws on lack of communication in relationships and the way in which humans avoid taking responsibility for their problems, pointing the finger at others, when they should be looking at themselves. Securing this type of behaviour pattern can result in higher levels of toxicity, making habits hard to break. Their music is purely about a feeling, told from the depths of their emotion, delivered in a way that leaves listeners feeling curious.

Kickstarting with pumping drums, fluttering indie guitars, steady basslines and charming melodies doused in vintage synths sounds of The Killers, “Blame It” captures your ears in an instance. Lead singer Freddie, maintains a relaxed, restrained tone as he tells a story of “two kids in love” before letting loose and showcasing his rich, smokey vocals glazed in a raw English accent. This aura of this single feels like an explosion of rock and synths whilst maintaining an ageless feel. Guitarist Joe reveals, “I guess you could say the track has a sort of feel-good melancholy and embraces a juxtaposition of emotions and feelings… We really enjoy instilling a sensation of nostalgia.”

Marlow have been compared to the likes of Oasis, Tame Impala and The Strokes, with euphoric, wild energy reminiscent of so many U.K. bands. If you love any of the brands mentioned above you’re sure to enjoy the latest endeavour from Sussex’s finest, Marlow.
