Newcomer Laica kicked off 2020 with an impressive introduction which included her debut Forever EP.

And apparently she went right back to work on new music, because she's back this week with her eyes clearly set on conquering 2021. Fittingly, she has returned with not one but two new songs, "love u lately" and "out of touch," the former of which is accompanied by a video directed by Cooper Leith.

The new music is a preview of the singer's album i'm so fine at being lonely, which is out in June, and both tracks showcase different angles of Laica's skillset, with "out of touch" demonstrating her vulnerable songwriting ability combined with tender vocals worthy of sharing a lane alongside Sabrina Claudio and Kehlani. Meanwhile, "love u lately" is evidence of the singer's star power, brimming with a welcome swagger in the vein of Ariana Grande, post-"thank u, next."

"'love u lately' is basically about the dating game and trying to figure out how the other person is feeling/thinking but getting mixed feelings," says Laica, who was born in Abu Dhabi, raised in the Philippines, and now based in Los Angeles. "So you do the same 'cause you reciprocate whatever energy or vibes they give you."
