Scandal star Kerry Washington hosted Saturday Night Live this week, but that was only half the story.

Following weeks of criticism of the show's largely white (and male) cast, veteran player Kenan Thompson said in an interview that he would not be dressing in drag, as he has in past seasons, to portray a variety of black women. Comments from that interview were further spotlighted this week with Washington's appearance.

The show took notice and lampooned its lack of diversity, starting with the cold open. In the scene, Washington depicted Michelle Obama in the Oval Office with Jay Pharoah's President Obama. It was quickly announced that Oprah Winfrey would be joining them, forcing Washington to grudgingly leave the room and return as Winfrey, only to be told that Beyoncé had arrived.

Washington and Pharoah also reunited later in the show for a spot-on spoof of Ylvis' viral hit "The Fox," titled "My Girl." In the clip, the sound in question was that of Pharoah's nagging, inquisitive girlfriend.
