Los Angeles trio Wax Owls released their new song "By My Side" on Friday. And while the song itself is a bright and uplifting reminder of good times, the video really steals the show.

The accompanying set of visuals star a pair of puppets offering a heartwarming narrative, which the sock figures reflective of simple memories—playing video games together, playing poker. It's silly, it's hokey, and after the last year, it's kind of perfect.

"I grew up near a nature refuge called Orcutt Ranch that had orange tree groves, a small creek, and great old oak trees,” says singer Gerry Hirschfeld. “I wanted this song to be a reminder of the simpler times spent with loved ones and an homage to the idyllic days I spent at Orcutt catching tadpoles, picking oranges, and climbing trees."

As for the video, drummer Chris Tsaganeas says: "We decided on a theme that we think is universal but close to our hearts. It is the story of two inseparable friends who grow apart. One friend repeatedly chooses his career above all else which drives a wedge between them. We can relate to diving into the deep end when it comes to work, but luckily we have friends that continuously hold out their hands to pull us back when life becomes overwhelming."
