After years of dabbling in solo, non-Paramore work, Hayley Williams is finally taking the plunge this year and releasing her first official solo album.

The singer on Wednesday shared her new single "Simmer," her first official release as a lead solo artist, following plenty of collaborations with the likes of B.o.B, Zedd, Weezer and CHVRCHES. The moody new track arrived with an accompanying set of visuals directed by past collaborator Warren Fu.

"Simmer," which is a rather subdued affair compared to some of the trademark Paramore material, is the first off Williams' upcoming debut solo album, titled Petals for Armor, which will be released May 8.

“I’m so ready and so incredibly humbled to get to share this project,” says Williams of the new music. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience ... Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with."

She also makes clear this side venture doesn't interfere with her original project, noting, "I’m in a band with my favorite musicians." In fact, her longtime bandmate Taylor York produced the track.
