HAIM is back with new music.

The sister trio on Wednesday returned with their new single "Summer Girl," which they had been teasing for the last few days and even performed live recently. The song arrived with a video directed by longtime collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson.

"I started the song when I found out my partner had cancer," says Danielle Haim of the new song, which was co-produced by Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid. "I was on tour and felt like I was trying to send positive energy his way almost telepathically. Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine—his summer when he was feeling dark. His hope when he was feeling hopeless."

The song follows the band's 2017 album Something to Tell You. But they've confirmed that instead of holding their music until a proper album cycle like they did for that record (and like most bands tend to do when they're signed to a label), they're going to share the music organically as they record it.
