After his “Pony” tour was canceled last year, Rex Orange County has come back with the second single, "AMAZING," off his upcoming album, WHO CARES. This song sounds and feels like a personal love letter of reassurance that we all possess beauty in different ways and that we should learn to appreciate and recognize that.

The song first hits you with a nostalgic feeling with the violin complimenting Rex’s distinct voice. As the song carries on, the beat picks up with help from the drums as the melody from the violin continues with it. When first hearing this song, it felt like a hug from Rex through the headphones. His single is the audio version of a smile; it’s positive, upbeat and comforting.

Released on Valentine's Day, Rex reminds us that despite not having a significant other, we should provide that missing love for ourselves. It's a song about reassurance and advocating for self-love, a reminder that we do not need another person to fill that seemingly large gap for us, we can fill it by loving ourselves.

Alluding to love, Rex sings, “There’s no way to time it / and where you may find it,” as a reminder to listeners that we do not search for love, it just happens. Love is a feeling and it comes and goes, but searching for it is too forced. We cannot disrupt the flow and in the meantime, we must fill that gap by loving ourselves.

In the chorus of the song, Rex reassures us as he sings, “Don’t change a thing, you are amazing / I can’t believe you’ve come and saved me.” Rex emphasizes that regardless of having a significant other or not, we are amazing and we do not need to change anything about ourselves. He basically relays the message that we should keep doing what we are doing, and in that, we will find love along the way.

Towards the end Rex sings, “We can stay here / spend everyday here.” This line specifically felt romantic. We all know that feeling of being so in love with someone that you can see yourself spending every single day with them, without the thought of getting bored, it just works. And that’s the best kind of love, the kind we don’t have to try for, it’s all natural. We feel accepted and cherished by the other person similar to how Rex feels around his love interest in the song.

The music video features the love story between two puppets. The main character is a hand puppet who delivers milk to a girl’s house and he has the biggest crush on her. He is involved in living the same day over and over again delivering milk to this girl’s house without confessing his true feelings. Then, in the end, the puppet gives his crush a note that reads, “You are amazing,” and it ends in a sealed kiss between the two.

Rex reminds us that before loving another person, we must channel and master self love in order to become the best version of ourselves for our future partners. Be on the lookout for Rex’s upcoming fourth album that will be released on March 11, as well as his upcoming tour dates on his North American tour.
