Just days after releasing two new songs, Kendrick Lamar confirmed Thursday his new album will be released next Friday, April 14.
Lamar had cryptically teased the date April 7 in his recent song "The Heart Part 4." In the track, he warned: "Y’all got 'til April the 7th to get y’all shit together," which prompted speculation he might be referring to a new full-length.
The new project, which is listed in iTunes as ALBUM (presumably a placeholder), follows Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly, which was released just over two years ago. He subsequently released untitled unmastered, a compilation of unreleased demos from that album.
According to the album credits, the new effort will feature a number of contributions, including James Blake, U2, Mike WiLL Made-It, BadBadNotGood, Anna Wise, The Internet's Steve Lacy, Sia's mega-collaborator Greg Kurstin and more.
Regarding the influence of the new project, Lamar said last month in a New York Times interview: "We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system."
The forthcoming 14-track album is available now for pre-order.
