Kanye West's surprise New York show early Monday morning was canceled after a sea of fans took to the streets in hopes of seeing the rapper.

The incident occurred just hours after severe weather forced Governors Ball to cancel its Sunday lineup, including West's headlining set, prompting the 2 a.m. concert at Webster Hall.

Because the show immediately sold out, thousands swarmed the venue trying to get in. And as show time approached, the crowd devolved into a chaotic mob.

Eventually, the venue announced there was "no late show at Webster Hall tonight." And it wasn't long before West himself was seen in a car making a getaway from the unruly scene, but not before shaking hands with fans.
