Target Offers 10 Percent Discount After Security Breach, Still Won't Carry Beyoncé's Album

It hasn't been a good week for Target. On Monday, the retailer announced it won't carry Beyoncé's new album because of iTunes' exclusive head start, resulting in wide criticism from fans.

Then on Thursday, the company confirmed that the credit/debit card information of as many as 40 million people had been compromised in one of the largest security breaches ever of consumer data.

In response to the latter issue, which has likely scared off some people during the busiest month for retailers, Target is now offering its 10 percent employee discount to shoppers on Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 21-22). But don't expect to see any copies of Beyoncé having suddenly appeared on the shelves as you trudge through the masses.

Of course, data breaches are costly to retailers, as T.J. Maxx's parent company learned in 2009, following a $9.75 million settlement over a similar situation. You know what would help cover some of those impending costs for Target? Selling some Beyoncé CDs.
