Apple Reportedly in Talks to Purchase Beats Electronics

Apple may be close to making its largest acquisition in the company's history.

According to The Financial Times, Apple is mulling a $3.2 billion bid for Beats Electronics—the headphones and speakers division as well as the streaming service.

Apple's most expensive acquisition to date was in 1997 when it bought NeXT for $404 million. The company had previously been said to be considering its own music streaming service, so it's unclear how Beats and iTunes would coexist should this deal move forward.

While this is all an interesting development, if this doesn't somehow lead to the release of Dr. Dre's Detox, it will surely still come up short.

Update (05.09.14)
Dr. Dre now appears in a new video with Tyrese, presumably filmed Thursday night, in which the latter declared the newly released Forbes' list of wealthiest hip-hop artists was already out of date. "Shit just changed," he said. Dre followed by declaring himself "the first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherfuckin' West Coast."
