Just hours before he took the stage with Guns N' Roses on Saturday night, AC/DC confirmed Axl Rose will also be its new lead singer when the band resumes its tour next month.
The announcement came after weeks of speculation, with AC/DC confirming last month singer Brian Johnson had been advised by his doctors to "stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss."
In a statement released late Saturday night, AC/DC thanked Johnson for "his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures," the band said. "As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian's decision to stop touring and save his hearing. We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment."
Following the band's upcoming trek, Rose will then hit the road with the newly reunited Guns N' Roses for their own tour. AC/DC's 10 previously postponed U.S. shows will also be rescheduled with Rose on vocals.
