Marvin Gaye's Family Turned Down Six-Figure Settlement from Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke has found himself caught up in the middle of a copyright battle with members of Marvin Gaye's family. But after news that Thicke and his "Blurred Lines" collaborators, Pharrell Williams and T.I., have filed a lawsuit against the family, it seems there had been another option.

According to Billboard, Team Thicke offered the family—specifically Frankie Christian Gaye, Marvin Gaye III and Nona Marvisa Gaye—a settlement sum in the six-figure range. The trio rejected it.

Thicke filed a lawsuit with his "Lines" co-writers Pharrell Williams and Clifford Harris, Jr., on Aug. 15. The suit, filed with U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, requests a ruling that "Lines" does not infringe on "Got To Give It Up."

In an interview with GQ, Thicke explained that "one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give It Up.' I was like, 'Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.' Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about a half hour and recorded it. The whole thing was done in a couple hours."
