'Happy Endings' Vet Adam Pally Promoted to Series Regular on 'Mindy Project'

Some very good news for Happy Endings (R.I.P.) fans.

Adam Pally, who originally signed on for a short story arc on Fox's The Mindy Project, has now been promoted to a series regular. Although his first episode on the Mindy Kaling-fronted comedy doesn't air until Oct. 1, TVLine has confirmed the actor will be staying on permanently.

The trick now will be to make sure fans tune in, as Tuesday's season two premiere of Mindy was down 21% from its debut episode last fall. With 3.95 million viewers, it was the lowest of Fox's quartet of comedies. Returning New Girl (5.6 million) and freshmen Brooklyn Nine-Nine (6 million) and Dads (5.5 million) all bested the show, which will need to attract more eyeballs to avoid the same fate as Pally's former show.

On the bright side, as Fox points out, is that Mindy's season two premiere saw a 46% increase over its season one finale. So that's definitely a very good sign.
