BANKS Responds to Neon Jungle 'Waiting Game' Controversy

Fans of Los Angeles songstress BANKS have been in an uproar this week over British pop group Neon Jungle cover of the singer's "Waiting Game" on their newly released album, Welcome to the Jungle.

The cover has been public for months, but fans have taken the band to task because their album (which doesn't note the fact that the song is a cover) is being released before BANKS' Goddess, which includes the original track, arrives in September.

"I was as shocked as you to see this song made up of my own heartbeats on their album,” BANKS said Wednesday on Facebook. “A song that was born from my real life, my real heartache, my real fingertips when I was at one of the most confusing times in my life. How strange it is to see it used on someone else's album before it even comes out on mine."

While BANKS went on to acknowledge the practice is legal, she said it "makes me feel very uncomfortable. Like my own thoughts were stolen from me and sold as someone else's."

Although Neon Jungle's album is only available overseas, BANKS has made a considerable effort to build a fan base in the U.K., where fans will have to wait until Sept. 8 to buy her album (Sept. 9 in the States).

Welcome to the Jungle also includes a cover of "Take Me to Church" by Hozier, whose own debut album doesn't release until Oct. 7.

Fortunately for BANKS and Hozier, the SOHN-produced "Waiting Game" and "Take Me to Church" were each released as singles last year and are both synonymous with the respective artist, considering the tracks were likely the first offerings many early fans heard from them.
