Mike Render (best known as Killer Mike) has responded to the controversy surrounding South Carolina governor Nikki Haley's call for the Confederate flag to be removed from the State House grounds.
In an op-ed for Fader, the rapper and frequent advocate for justice regarding race-related issues called the flag a symbol of America's traitors. "You do not fly the flags of losers' over the winner's country," he said. "It's just that simple."

The Georgia native explained that having grown up in the South, he understands the historical elements of the flag and he has no issue with its presence on private property, clothing, vehicles and other personal belongings, but he doesn't believe it's appropriate for it to be flown on government property or "anything that taxpayers pay for, because taxpayers are a part of the Union not the Confederacy."
Render's comments follow a week of heated debate surrounding the Confederate flag, sparked by the terroristic acts of Dylann Roof, the 21-year-old white man who killed nine African-Americans in a Charleston church. He has since been linked to white supremacist groups and can be seen posing with the Confederate battle flag (and burning the American one) in recent photos.
