As The Shins gear up for a new album early next year, the James Mercer-led outfit has shared a new song "Dead Alive" in the form of a Halloween-themed video.

As we previously mentioned, the band performed the jangly cut last month during their shows in the UK. It's unclear if the song will actually be included on the record itself or if it's simply an isolated appetizer.

Mercer said over the summer The Shins' new album is complete, but his label is holding it for early 2017—"January, hopefully"—in an effort to boost the band's chances of locking in high-profile festival slots, such as Coachella.

The "Dead Alive" video opens with Mercer's tombstone before following the singer in different variations of himself, including a bearded skeleton.
