After months of waiting, Sufjan Stevens' new record The Ascension has arrived.

The followup to his 2015 album Carrie & Lowell arrived Friday and it follows a string of recent singles leading up to the full LP, which is out today on Asthmatic Kitty Records.

As we previously mentioned, Stevens' new album is said to be an indictment of a world crumbling around us—and a roadmap out of here. According to Stevens, the foundations of the record are “a call for personal transformation and a refusal to play along with the systems around us."

He adds: “My objective for this album was simple: Interrogate the world around you. Question anything that doesn’t hold water. Exterminate all bullshit. Be part of the solution or get out of the way. Keep it real. Keep it true. Keep it simple. Keep it moving.”
