Taylor Swift has dropped a new song today. "The Archer" arrived late Tuesday afternoon, after the singer had teased an announcement the day before.

She hinted at the song's release yesterday with an image from her recent "You Need to Calm Down" video featuring a target with the number "5" on it, a reference to the the song being the fifth track on her upcoming album Lover.

She confirmed the release and song's placement as track number five today in an Instagram Live session. Fans have long pointed out Swift tends to make the fifth track on her albums an emotional ballad, and she has since intentionally done so, with this forthcoming record clearly being no exception.

Some fans have speculated that there might be a connection between "The Archer" and "Delicate," the latter of which was track number five from her last album Reputation

Lover is coming Aug. 23 and Swift announced today during her Instagram Live chat there will be four deluxe editions of the album. So of course her first week album sales will be astronomical.
