Chris Emerson (aka What So Not) is back with new music, setting the right vibe with new single "We Can Be Friends."

The simmering new cut is a collaboration with Herizen, the singer-actress from Netflix's The Get Down. And according to Emerson, the track came together rather easily during a writing camp in Nicaragua.

"On the first take, Herizen belted out the chorus over some chords I was playing," he says of the experience. "We caught a moment and ran with it. I’d been listening to a lot of Dilla, did some simple drum programming and played in textures and riffs on a Nord. As the song developed I retained that feel, keeping the production light and lush centering the song around the beautiful and haunting vocal."

The song arrives with an accompanying video, co-directed by Justin Frick and Corrin Evans, who sought to capture the "emotional cloudiness that people often experience when going through a heartbreak."

As Emerson also points out, they crowdsourced to find the number of colorful fish tanks used in the video.
