Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) has his first No. 1 song.
His recently released "This Is America" has officially topped the U.S. song charts, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Nielsen Music, the track earned 65.3 million U.S. streams and 78,000 downloads, enough to also secure the top spot on the Digital Song Sales chart.
As we previously mentioned, Glover debuted the song during the May 5 episode of NBC's Saturday Night Live, which he hosted and performed as the musical guest. In addition to performing the song, he also released a chilling video.
It's worth noting, the video is clearly driving the song's success on the charts, with 68 percent of its streaming tally coming from video plays.
"This Is America" also breaks a 15-week winning streak for Drake, who spent 11 weeks at No. 1 with "God's Plan," then replacing himself for four weeks with his followup single "Nice For What."
RCA Records has pointed out the new music, while extremely buzzworthy right now, is not the official first single off the upcoming Gambino album, which is expected later this year and will serve as the artist's debut on the label.
