Frank Ocean says he's working on a new music—a new album, in fact.
The singer said in a new interview with W Magazine he has been working on a new record inspired by "Detroit, Chicago, techno, house [and] French electronic," while also drawing influence from other "iterations of nightlife."
The rare conversation with a journalist was also a candid one for Ocean, who said the forthcoming album would be released independently. "I’ve been independent since 2016," he said. "So I plan on keeping it that way for a while. I’ve got amazing credit, so if I need a loan, I’ll go to a bank."
Ocean also discussed his involvement in politics, conceding the "stakes are high" in the current political climate.
"I would replace the word ‘responsibility‘ with ‘opportunity’ when it comes to voting," he explained. "Because you have the right to do nothing, but you have an opportunity to do so much more. It’s simple to go vote; it’s complicated to galvanize votes. I’d like to have as many schemes as possible."
He did not reveal an exact date he intends to release his next album. Last month marked three years since the release of his last record, Blonde.
