Metallica's performance Monday night in Amsterdam didn't quite go as planned.

While the band was playing "Now That We're Dead" at the Ziggo Dome, frontman James Hetfield fell through a trapdoor on stage. But as fan footage captured, he just kept playing his guitar. Within seconds, crew members helped him out and brought him back to the stage level to finish the song.

"Is everybody OK?" Hetfield asked the audience afterward before assuring them, "Yes, I'm OK. My ego, not so much. But we're fine."

Metallica is on a European arena tour through the fall, with more international shows planned after the new year.
