Following in the steps of his last two predecessors as Saturday Night Live musical guest, Lil Nas X has released new music before he takes his turn this weekend.

As Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo both did earlier this month, Nas has shared a new song called "Sun Goes Down." But whereas his hit "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" was sure to be one of the two songs he performs on the NBC sketch show, given its success and controversy, this new track is much more introspective, as the rapper goes back to 2017 and confronts his emotional struggles as he battled who he was inside.

The accompanying video opens with Lil Nas X at his old job, working at a Taco Bell store, with a cameo from his father R.L. Stafford, before he is transported to the lonely hallways of his high school and a devastating night at prom.

Lil Nas X will perform both of his new songs on the season finale of SNL this weekend (May 22), and both tracks are confirmed to be on his upcoming debut album, which is expected this summer on Columbia Records.
