Indie Band Vulfpeck Asks Fans to Stream Silent Album on Spotify to Fund Tour

Los Angeles indie outfit Vulfpeck has released a new album on Spotify. But it's hardly just a new LP.

In the band's promo video, frontman Jack Stratton blatantly reveals the new record, Sleepify, is a deliberate collection of completely silent tracks, meant to be played "all night on repeat."

According to Stratton, the band is seeking to rack up streams of the album in order to fund their forthcoming tour, which they hope to be free as a result of the royalties collected from Spotify.

"Please don't "shuffle" Sleepify," the band hilariously tweeted about their new project. "I know this might come of snobbish, but we spent a lot of time on track order."

Of course, the cheeky campaign once again draws attention to Spotify's miniscule royalties to artists, specifically lesser-known acts. Stratton points out that when fans listen to one song, "Spotify pays us a half a cent. So if you were to listen to Sleepify all night long on repeat, you would generate $4."

If all goes as planned, Vulfpeck anticipates planning their free tour around cities where the album is being played the most. It's just one of the many genius aspects of this scheme.
